The Lithuanian State Historical Archives presents the virtual exhibition “The Great Benefactor Juozapas Montvila.”

This year marks the 175th anniversary of the birth of the eminent public figure of the late 19th–early 20th century—entrepreneur, banker, and initiator of the construction of many sacred and other buildings in Lithuania—Juozapas Montvila (1850–1911). This anniversary became the impetus, together with other Lithuanian state archives and Lithuanian and foreign memory institutions, to prepare the documentary exhibition “The Great Benefactor Juozapas Montvila,” reminding today’s audiences of this distinguished personality’s contributions to construction, scholarship, art, and especially philanthropy.

The stationary exhibition displayed in the Exhibition and Education Hall of the Lithuanian State Historical Archives, the virtual exhibition in Lithuanian and Polish, and the travelling exhibition shown at the Kėdainiai Multicultural Centre have all attracted great interest from visitors.

Today we present the virtual exhibition “The Great Benefactor Juozapas Montvila” in English.

We hope that the archival documents showcased—about the life and activity of this eminent public figure and philanthropist, who left a lasting mark on the history of Šėta, Vilnius, and Lithuania—will interest researchers abroad.

We invite you to explore the exhibition!
