Meeting of Lithuanian and Polish Cultural Heritage Experts in Druskininkai
On June 4–6, the 14th meeting of Lithuanian and Polish cultural heritage expert groups took place in Druskininkai, with the participation of Lithuania’s Chief Archivist, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Inga Zakšauskienė. The discussions focused particularly on the continued cooperation between the state archives of Lithuania and Poland, the digitization of documentary heritage, and expanding public access.
The cooperation between Lithuanian and Polish archives is important not only due to shared historical memory but also for practical reasons – many documents reflecting the historical events of both countries are scattered across their borders. Inter-institutional dialogue enables the weaving together of these historically dispersed fragments of memory into a more coherent narrative, valuable for both researchers and the general public.
Fulfilling their commitments to exchange archival document copies, ensure public access, and strengthen collaboration in training and skills development among archival professionals, the archival institutions of Lithuania and Poland agreed to continue their work based on previously signed cooperation agreements, to implement new initiatives, and to seek additional funding sources for joint projects.
The meeting also addressed issues related to document preservation, restoration, and digital solutions.
