A delegation of the Polish Institute of national remembrance visited the Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania
The President of the Polish Institute of national remembrance Karol Nawrocki and his delegation visited the Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania on January 19th. Lithuanian side was represented by the Head of the Department of Management and Use of Documents and Archives of the Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania, temporarily performing the functions of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania, Daiva Lukšaitė, Director of the Lithuanian Special Archives Ovidijus Lėveris and, Director of the Lithuanian Central State Archives Dalius Žižys during officila meeting. Opportunities and perspectives of closer cooperation, joint educational and scientific projects was discussed during the meeting.
The Lithuanian Special Archives has been cooperating with the Polish Institute of national remembrance for ten years, and the Lithuanian Central State Archives has been sharing stored documents with the institute's researchers for many years.
The Polish Institute of national remembrance was established in 2000. The aim of the institute is to investigate the crimes committed against the Polish nation from 1917 to 1990, and to popularize the history of Poland during this period.
The president with a delegation also participated in the presentation of the film "Black Ceiling" at the House of Polish Culture in Vilnius and the discussion scheduled after the screening of the film. The film "Black Ceiling" is based on the book "The Crime of Ponarska 1941-1944". The film is dedicated to an extraordinary man - Józef Mackiewicz, who testified before a special US congressional committee investigating the Katyn massacre and published hundreds of memoirs and political commentaries on the subject.
The discussion was attended by Ph.D., D.Sc. Monika Tomkiewic (Research Office of The Polish Institute of national remembrance), prof. Jaroslaw Wołkonowski (Faculty of Law, University of Bialystok), Director of the Education Office of The Polish Institute of national remembrance Adam Hlebowicz, film producer Konrad Starczewskij (Education Office of The Polish Institute of national remembrance), Director of the Lithuanian Special Archives Ovidijus Lėveris.
